We actually took a couple of days
off work and went on a "mini-vacation." We left on Thursday,
July 3, and went to Prescott, spending the night in a motel
there (special coupon rate).
It was a bit cooler than here and
we were out on the square in downtown Prescott in the evening
watching cloggers and strolling around as various vendors set
up their tents for the weekend festivities (which we
missed!).
We went to Flagstaff the next day
taking the scenic route over Mingus Mountain. I had forgotten
what a white-knuckle drive that is. Actually, it is quite
beautiful and as we drove through the old mining town of
Jerome (now an artist's haven), I marveled again at why folks
would have built homes on the side of a mountain that way back
in the late 1800's. How did they even get up there in horse
and buggy?
We spent the afternoon with Chad
and Twyla. We knew that it would be a hot afternoon since
they have no air-conditioning and their living space is
upstairs. (They have a split-level home with two bedrooms and
bath downstairs.) The most comfortable we were was when we
sat out back while Chad grilled for us.
That evening we watched fireworks
from a distance, sitting in the parking lot behind the mall.
The noise and light still frightened Arwen. She buried her
head in Mom's shoulder and had a strangle-hold around her
neck. It was quite cool sitting out there--almost wanted a
long-sleeve shirt.
We stayed with friends that night
and took them to breakfast before returning in the afternoon
on Saturday. It was a great relaxing time.
We are hard in the middle of doing
another set of prayer letters. As of Wednesday, when we last
worked, there were 13 letters in, but most of those had come
in after the due date of Monday, so I am expecting to find
more waiting for me when I get to work tomorrow.
Dave has printed most of them and
will start folding so I can mail them, but there is always a
problem when they come in late because then we have to
readjust the equipment for the different sizes of letters,
instead of being able to do same sizes altogether at the same
time.
We have ordered new rollers for
the tabbing machine, since it has not been approved to get a
new one. I have also looked into purchasing a feeder for the
tabber so that I can do the tabbing first and then the
addressing, which, incidentally the way that it is usually
done by mailing companies. A new one costs $1700, but there
is a possibility of getting a used one in August or
September. Pray for that end, as it would make my job so much
easier and less frustrating.
Vanessa seems to be doing well.
She applied for a new job assignment since she finds the
hostessing job very boring. She applied to work in either the
mill or the stained glass factory. I haven't heard from her
since Thursday so don't know what has happened with that.
We praise the Lord that Scott is
doing well in his job and making over twice what he did at
OfficeMax. Pray that he will continue to get good sales and
stay healthy, as he is out working in the elements.
Continue to pray for Chad and
Twyla and their marriage, their children, Arwen and Corwin,
and for their salvation. It is heart-rending that they do see
the need to take their children to Sunday school and church.
There is no Bible-teaching in the home at all.
Thank you for prayers for us and
your support for us financially.
In Christ,
Dave and Nancy
