Ed uses catalpa, walnut, yellow pine, cedar, American and Chinese Elm. No living tree has ever been used! None of the logs have been treated with a preservative before they are carved.

After the carving is "blocked out" it is left to dry and then the details are added.

The finish used is a polyurethane base--detailed by sometimes using stains, paints, and burning...

Each piece will need pulyurethane applied to it on a yearly basis.
